🍋 Simple Limoncello Recipe
Once you’ve calculated your ingredients, follow this method:
1. Prepare the lemons
- Wash your lemons thoroughly
- Peel/zest only the yellow skin (avoid white pith — it makes it bitter)
2. Infuse the ethanol
- Add lemon zest to your measured 96% ethanol
- Seal in a glass jar or container
- Leave to infuse for 5–10 days
- Shake gently once per day
👉 The liquid will turn bright yellow — that’s what you want
3. Strain
- Strain out all lemon zest using a fine filter or cloth
You now have a strong lemon extract
4. Make sugar syrup
- Mix your calculated sugar + water
- Heat gently until sugar is fully dissolved
- Let it cool completely
5. Combine
- Mix your lemon ethanol with your sugar syrup
- Stir well — your limoncello is ready
6. Rest (recommended)
- Let it sit for 2–5 days before drinking
This helps smooth out the flavour
7. Serve
- Best served ice cold from the freezer
- Perfect as a digestif or in cocktails
💡 Why use 96% ethanol?
Using high-strength ethanol gives a cleaner, stronger lemon extraction compared to vodka — resulting in a more intense and authentic limoncello flavour.
